At Al Miftah, we place great emphasis on students becoming well acquainted with the rich Islamic history and legacy left behind by key figures that shape our Muslim identity today. Theoretically, the study of Islamic History can begin from the beginning of time with the study of Prophet Adam (AS). Indeed, this is a course - The Stories of the Prophets - that will be offered by Al Miftah in the near future. However, the scope of The Islamic History Unlocked Programme will commence with the study of Seerah - the biography of the Prophet Mohammed (SAW) - as he is the best example for mankind and it is therefore crucial that every Muslim has studied the intricate details of his life before and after Prophethood.

Trace the life & rich Islamic history of the beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and immerse yourself in a truly compelling narrative, with countless inspirational lessons that serve as crucial reminders to Muslims throughout the ages. Students will be exposed to subsidiary discussions that arise from the Seerah to contextualise learning and enable them to appreciate the many other Islamic sciences that are deeply linked with the detailed study of the Seerah, detailing Islamic heritage from its roots. Additionally, students will gain the opportunity to study the lives of the Four Rightly Guided Caliphs after the Seerah to expand their knowledge and proficiency in the History that impacted the world in a way never seen before.

The Programme will commence with studying the life of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) - this is essential in order to appreciate the link between Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Mohammed (SAW). Students will then begin a study of the chronological historical events that took place before the birth of the Prophet Mohammad (SAW), through to his upbringing & revelation of Prophethood, before unravelling the struggles & battles that came with the spread of Islam in Makkah & the immigration to Madinah, to his death.

After this, students will have the opportunity to study the Four Right Guided Caliphs - Abu Bakr (RA), Umar (RA), Uthman (RA) and Ali (RA) - to further appreciate the rich Islamic heritage from which Islam flourished and spread.

The Programme is comprised of 3 terms and 38 weeks of core sessions delivered throughout the academic year at Al Miftah's campus in Slough, Berkshire. Each core session encompasses 2 hours of face-to-face learning with a senior instructor, with each session based on a lecture format with the opportunity for Q&A.

The course will commence on Sunday 6th January 2019 at 11am-1pm and will run thereafter every Sunday during term-time. Term dates for 2019 can be found here.
